Closing day at the 2018 Optimist World Championship, in Limassol Cyprus. With wind up to 16 knots, Italian Marco Gradoni rapped up an impressive victory with 9 bullets in 11 races, followed in 2nd place by American Stephan Baker and Thailand’s Panwa Boonnak.
Maria Perello from Spain finished 14th overall and first in the Girls, followed by Faith Hailey Toh from Singapore and Anjan Von Allmen from Switzerland.
Team Thailand wins both the Team Racing Competition followed by Italy and Spain, as well as the Nations Cup with Italy again in second and Brazil in third.
Closing ceremony followed with very short and informal speeches from the President of IODA Kevin Whitcraft and the Chairman of the Event and President of Famagusta Nautical Club, Stelios Charalambous who thanked all volunteers, people and sponsors who worked to organize the Worlds and apologize for any miscues and inconveniences that might have occured during the event. He emphasized the necessity for these kind of events to be kids oriented and a reunion of the family of the biggest sailing class of the world.
A Beach party followed the award ceremony and the festivities with sailors enjoying night swimming and finger food
